Furniture designer Pooja talks about the spring 2020 Introductions

Apr 15th 2020

Spring introductions were just released a few weeks ago, and we are already working hard on fall designs. I asked one of our furniture designers, Pooja, a couple of questions about the spring pieces while she is working from home.

What can you tell us about the new finishes you have used in the spring 2020 introductions? From where did you draw your inspiration for the new pieces?

Amazing home styling comes from thinking outside the box while still considering practical implications for the end user. Our design inspiration for the spring 2020 collection comes from mixing finishes and designing products that complement each other in a space while still providing a little variety. We have experimented with classic shapes while applying modern finishes. The overall look of the collection includes pieces to satisfy different clients with various design styles. The finishes pose some soft, beautiful textures like the basketweave grasscloth, cane, white linen, and some hammered metal side tables. We introduced a new finish called the smokey grey cerused oak that you can see on the CAMEO side table. We also took inspiration from soft curves and sculptural shapes to bring some playfulness. Overall the collection is a fun blend of classic and modern.

How would you describe the style of the MADDEN?

MADDEN - A modern style storage piece with linen drawer fronts and white case gives the chest a clean style. Tapering the case gives the piece a sleek look, The brass and nickel detailing on the hardware gives a touch of edginess to the piece.

What about the MADDOCK?

MADDOCK – A classic entry way table showcasing elegant demilune shape. The four tapering legs make the table look light and airy. Available in two different finishes, the grey faux shagreen paired with white edging give a fresh feel, while the dark walnut finish gives the pieces an earthy and radiant look. The brass ball hardware is kept simple and classic, while the brass tips on the legs give it some personality. Overall the Maddock table is a perfect blend of modern with traditional.

What is your favorite piece from this collection?

My favorite is a new finish on one of our most popular chairs. The JUDE was introduced last year and has upholstered arms and a deeper seat that offer a relaxed and a modern look. The open back feels airy while the white linen seat and arms keep it simple and classic. Adding an option in the burlwood frame allows it to be paired in a room with modern or traditional pieces and the antique brass detailing gives a little glam. JUDE BW is a great chair for dining or at a desk or reading nook.

We are all spending more time in our homes right now. How would you advise people to update a space in their homes by incorporating something new with what existing pieces they have?

A lot of the pieces in our spring 2020 introductions will work well in existing spaces. Consider some of the chests and cabinets for storage solutions, desks for working at home, and comfy stools that can be moved around the space as needed. Now is a great time to try rearranging furniture to make a space look new and fresh and fit your changing needs. Once your floorplan and furniture are set, incorporate more plants or flowers to bring a little bit of color and life.
